CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)

The CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a prestigious national-level law entrance exam in India.

Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • There is no upper age limit for appearing in the UG CLAT exam.
  • For the PG CLAT exam, candidates must possess a recognized law degree (LL.B) from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

Exam Levels:

  • UG CLAT: For admission to undergraduate (UG) 5-year Integrated Law programs offered by National Law Universities (NLUs) and other participating institutions.

  • PG CLAT: For admission to postgraduate (PG) Law programs offered by National Law Universities (NLUs) and other participating institutions (LL.M or other specialized programs).

Exam Pattern:

  • Mode of Exam: Offline (Pen and Paper based)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Number of Questions: 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Sections:
    • Legal Reasoning (40-45 questions)
    • Logical Reasoning (40-45 questions)
    • Quantitative Techniques (Quantitative Aptitude) (13-17 questions)
    • English Language Comprehension (20-25 questions)

Marking Scheme:

  • Each correct answer gets +1 mark.
  • There is negative marking for incorrect answers (usually 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer).

Selection Process:

  • Based on the CLAT score, candidates are shortlisted for further rounds like Group Discussions (GDs) and Personal Interviews (PIs) conducted by the participating universities/colleges.
